Evening of Transcendent Sound at Wave Hill

With Wave Hill’s majestic Armor Hall space as the setting, be guided through a combined musical and meditative experience in celebration of winter transcendence. Join Bronx Arts Ensemble along with Artemis Audio & Ayurveda for a unique performance and variety of healing instruments and sounds. Wind up your transcendent evening with a tranquil stroll through the winter gardens as you depart, guided by the fading sunset and the twinkling lights along the distant banks of the Hudson River. A co-presentation with Bronx Arts Ensemble.

Wave Hill House and Armor Hall are wheelchair-accessible. There is an accessible, ground-level entrance at the front of the building with a power-assist door. The restroom on the ground level is all-gender and ADA-compliant. Additional ADA-compliant restrooms are available on the lower level, which can be accessed by elevator.

Artemis Audio & Ayurveda

SARA HART and DREW CAMPBELL, aka ARTEMIS AUDIO & AYURVEDA, offering yoga, sound therapy and meditation. Sara Hart is a certified yoga teacher (YTT500) and offers Hatha Yoga classes, workshops, and retreats focused on the Ayurvedic principles of wellness and self-care since 2010. When not teaching Sara creates fine art photography and mixed media woods sculptures. Andrew Campbell is a certified audio professional, registered sound therapist and shamanic healer offering one-on-one and group sessions. Both Drew and Sara are certified Reiki Masters and infuse energy healing into all that they do.

Jorge Avila, violin

Honduran-born violinist JORGE ÁVILA has won consistent high praise from The New York Times through his many appearances as a soloist, concertmaster, recitalist, and chamber musician. A recipient of various awards and honors, Jorge received his Green Card under the “Extraordinary Talent” category, later becoming a US citizen. He was awarded first prize at the 2001 Mu Phi Epsilon Music Competition, and the Omar del Carlo Fellowship at Tanglewood Music Center. Jorge is concertmaster of the Ridgefield Symphony, DCINY and Sacred Music in a Sacred Space series, and is a longtime artist member of the Bronx Arts Ensemble. He has appeared as concertmaster with the Stamford, Westfield and Greenwich Symphonies.  In 2015 Jorge served as concertmaster of the orchestra appearing with His Holiness, Pope Francis, at a televised Mass held at Madison Square Garden.

Sally Shumway

Violist SALLY SHUMWAY has been an artist member of the Bronx Arts Ensemble since 1991. She appears on BAE recordings in works by Carlos Surinach, Robert Baksa, Meyer Kupferman, Soong Fu Yuan, Allen Brings and Roberto Sierra.  Sally is a longtime member of the American Symphony Orchestra, and also appears on movie soundtracks, TV jingles and Broadway soundtracks. She is a graduate of the University of Kansas and Manhattan School of Music, and is on the faculty of the Ridgewood (NJ) Conservatory.

Eliot Bailen, cello

ELIOT BAILEN has an active career as an Artistic Director, cellist, composer and teacher. Principal cello of the New York Chamber Ensemble, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, Orchestra New England, New York Bach Artists, Teatro Grattacielo and the New Choral Society, Mr. Bailen is also Founder and Artistic Director of the Sherman Chamber Ensemble He has recently been appointed Artistic Director of the New York Chamber Ensemble and is Founder and Artistic director of Chamber Music at Rodeph Sholom in New York, now in its tenth year. He appears frequently with such orchestras as the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, New York City Opera and Ballet, American Symphony, New Jersey Symphony and the Oratorio Society of New York and is Assistant-Principal cello of the Stamford Symphony.

Theresa Norris

THERESA NORRIS, flutist, is a “Motown” girl who performed with Michigan Opera Theatre and the Detroit Symphony before coming to New York. She has been an Artist Member of the Bronx Arts Ensemble for more than 30 years, while enjoying a busy orchestral and chamber music career playing with many groups in New York City and the surrounding area.  Theresa has performed with St. Bart’s Music Festival, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, New Jersey Festival Orchestra, Berkshire Opera, Philip Glass Ensemble and many others, as well as on Broadway. When not performing or teaching, Theresa can be found tending her garden or cooking and entertaining friends.  On that rare night off, she’s with her husband Charley, bowling and groovin’ to the music at the Brooklyn Bowl.

David Sapadin, Clarinet

DAVID SAPADIN is the principal clarinetist of the New York Pops and is a New York City based freelance musician known for his lyrical clarinet playing and engaging teaching style. He has played with the Metropolitan Opera, American Ballet Theater, The American Symphony Orchestra, The New York City Opera, The Knights, The Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Albany Symphony, Princeton Symphony, Stamford Symphony, and internationally with the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Mr. Sapadin’s recording of the Brahms Sonata for Clarinet and Piano is available on all streaming platforms. David considers teaching central to his work as an artist. He is on the faculty at Montclair State University, The Mannes School of Music, and Kinhaven Music School. As a pedagogue, he has led masterclasses across the country and teaches clarinetists from 1st grade to graduate school.

Adrienne Kim, Piano

Pianist ADRIENNE KIM has performed in New York’s Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Bargemusic, Boston’s Symphony Hall, Washington D.C.’s Phillips Gallery and Ravinia’s Rising Stars series in Chicago. She has appeared as soloist with the Central Philharmonic Orchestra of Beijing, the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Mexico, the Portland Chamber Orchestra, and the Richmond Orchestra.

She is the pianist of the Alcott Trio and is a founding member of the New York Chamber Music Co-Op, a new creative performance collaborative based in New York City.
