Native New Yorker Cellist-Composer Akua Dixon has been touring the world for the last 40 years with her music for jazz string quartet. Her string arrangements and string quartet can be heard on the five-time Grammy award-winning CD, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” and the Grammy nominated CD, “A Rose Is Still A Rose” by Aretha Franklin. Some of the artists she has performed with are Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, James Brown, Hector Lavoe, Israel “Cachao” Lopez, Larry Harlow, Charanga America, Arturo O’Farrill, Paquito D’Rivera, James Carter, Tina Turner, Charanga America, and Charansalsa. Akua has performed at major concert halls and jazz festivals throughout the US, Europe, and the Caribbean.

BAE’s Executive Director, Judith Insell, has been awarded the “Jazz Hero” advocacy award by the Jazz Journalist Association. She will be receiving the 2023 Jazz Hero award at 3pm.
