Program Overview 2017-05-05T16:23:24+00:00

Our professional teaching artists offer students a dynamic, first-hand experience in the full spectrum of all four disciplines. Bronx Arts Ensemble Teaching Artists provide an unique energy in the classroom: The experience of an artist, actively engaged in a professional career, imparting the knowledge of their artistic field to students on a daily basis. Forming links between the arts and other subject areas in school curriculums, BAE TAs provide students with training that inspires the discipline and commitment required to attain the skills to excute the creative arts.

BAE works diligently to align its curriculum content with NYC DOE Arts “Blueprints” for Music, Dance, Visual Arts, and Theater: Focus is given to the quality of the arts education – teaching of skills and techniques, the development of an aesthetic awareness, the pursuit of an understanding of the world, and a shared understanding of the arts as an outlet for self – expression.BAE has developed customized, dynamic AIE programs that have served over 100,000 since 1993 providing artist residencies, after-school, summer programs, and a roster of original auditorium programs. Our professional teaching artists offer students a dynamic, first-hand experience in the full spectrum of all four disciplines.

Focus is given to the quality of the arts education – teaching of skills and techniques, the development of an aesthetic awareness, the pursuit of an understanding of the world, and a shared understanding of the arts as an outlet for self – expression.

Our school partnerships are extraordinarily strong. Teaching artists are often multiracial and multilingual, and are keenly aware of the ethnic, linguistic and socioeconomic parameters of the student population. At least 75% of BAE’s teaching artists return to the same school each year, providing educational scaffolding and deeper curriculum connections. BAE can provide classes in Music: woodwinds, percussion, violin, recorder, clarinet, keyboard, guitar, chorus, band. Dance and Movement: ballroom dance, Latin dance, African dance, hip-hop, modern dance, capoeira, Zumba, yoga, makulele, taekwondo, judo. Visual Arts: costume design, set design, murals, fashion design. Theater: musical theater, drama, improvisation. Classes take place during school time or after school, between two to five days a week, based on school resources.

BAE Teaching Artists provide arts services in environments populated with students that are classified as Special Needs (IEP specific), English Language Learners (ELLs), and Transitional (homeless), which present many challenges for instruction.

BAE’s Live Music performance programs are inextricably linked to our vibrant Arts-In-Education (AiE) program that is the foundation of our creative Youth Development initiative
