Students created a script from one of their favorite
stories, The Wizard of Oz and
under the direction of BAE's drama teacher, took roles in the classic tale of Dorothy following
the Yellow Brick Road to Oz. The final production, after weeks of hard work, was presented for friends
and parents in the school auditorium.
Other arts instruction at the school included recorder, tap dancing, dance, visual arts and keyboards.
|
Representing a true collaboration of the BAE and the school, Chocolate Fever
was presented in three performances after weeks of work under the direction of Frank
Copeland, with music by Bevin Turnbull and the invaluable participation of the Benjamin
Banneker Choir under the direction of the school's Project Arts director, Portia Lagares.
In addition, a performing arts festival included students' performances on recorder,
keyboards, violin, African drumming, and the school band featuring flutes, clarinets
and trumpets.

A happy tradition at this school, parents are invited to applaud their children's
skills in recorder, violin, acting, chorus and band. In 2004, the band, in its first year at
the school, demonstrated spectacular performance enthusiasm, and BAE's chorus
instructor Chris Kahler's Super Singers brought down the house with songs of many
cultures. Three short plays were presented, with the highlight a student stilt-walker,
trained by Alice Bosveld, drama teacher and member of The New York Lyric Circus.
Alice and her husband John Grimaldi can often be seen on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera as comedians/stilt walkers/jugglers.
